Simple Cavemen set list: May 21, Yalaha Bakery

Only three Cavemen on the bandstand today, but it was a memorable afternoon. The band was honored to provide the soundtrack for a celebration of life for retired Chicago firefighter Tom Hussey. It was a pleasure to meet Tom’s widow, Margaret, and the big, gregarious group of family and friends gathered to honor his memory.

Tom and Margaret were big blues fans in Chicago, so D-Squared helped the band dig into that music a bit more than normal today. The band also tossed in a Guy Clark cover as a nod to the passing of the legendary Texas songwriter.

Here’s the list:

Set 1. The Weight (The Band cover); Marlena; Texas Wind; Big Boss Man (Jimmy Reed cover); Horizon Moon; You Can’t Always Get What You Want (Rolling Stones cover); T-Bone Shuffle (T-Bone Walker cover); Long May You Run (Neil Young cover).

Set 2. Jukebox Serenade; To Love Somebody (Bee Gees cover); She’s Gone/Hound Dog (dedication to the Hussey family, Big Mama Thornton cover); Safe Inside the Mirror; Compilation Blues; Hold Me Tight; If Not For You (Bob Dylan cover).

Set 3. Walls (Tom Petty cover); Jackson County; Suzie Q (Dale Hawkins cover); Tupelo Honey (Van Morrison cover); Come On, Come On; Homegrown Tomatoes (Guy Clark cover); You Got Me Runnin’ (Jimmy Reed cover); Mr Bojangles (Jerry Jeff Walker cover); Like a Rolling Stone (Bob Dylan cover).

The band returns June 4.
