Simple Cavemen set list: Feb. 12, Yalaha Bakery

A nice afternoon for the 4-piece lineup (Jimmy, Roscoe, D-Squared and Tie-Dye) on a rare Sunday booking at the lovely Yalaha Bakery.

Tossed a few new wrinkles into the sets, with mixed results. Added a few ballads that might qualify as love songs for Valentine’s Day, “for those who celebrate it,” as JC said from the bandstand.

Also offered a long-distance dedication of Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece” to retired scribe Bo Poertner, now the pride of Lompoc, Calif.  (JC and Bo used to do a version of that one long ago.)

We return to the bakery on March 18.

Here’s what we played:

Set 2: Tupelo Honey (Van Morrison cover); Deep Elem Blues (traditional cover); Games People Play (Joe South cover); Cajun Moon (J.J. Cale cover); Safe Inside the Mirror; Compilation Blues; Lovin’ Arms (Tom Jans cover); Broken; Tore Up (Hank Ballard cover).
