Simple Cavemen set list: Jan. 28, Yalaha Bakery

A chilly day today at the bakery: Fingerless mittens and the layered look for the guys on the bandstand.

Still plenty of fun. “Wipe Out,” by request. And very nearly the epic hippie sing-along of our psychedelic dreams on the Youngbloods’ “Get Together,” thanks to the enthusiasm of the wonderful Tom and Debra Wynn.

Time-travel memories for Jimmy Carl, courtesy of the loyal Walt Disney alums (Jim Beekman, David Kranz and Sanford Mace). The band sent out “Elias Mine” in their honor.

Oh, yeah: Roscoe Gray’s birthday cake.

Here’s what else we played:

Set 1: I Know You Rider (Grateful Dead cover); Marlena; One Less Gamblin’ Man; The Samosa Girls; Who Do You Believe In Now?; Big Boss Man (Jimmy Reed cover); Texas Wind; Watchin’ the River Flow (Bob Dylan cover).

Set 2: Wipe Out (Surfaris cover, by request); For What It’s Worth (Buffalo Springfield cover); Elias Mine; Safe Inside the Mirror; Jukebox Serenade; Compilation Blues; Lovin’ Arms (Tom Jans cover); Broken; Get Together (Youngbloods cover).

Set 3: Long Black Veil (Lefty Frizzell cover); White Freightliner (Townes Van Zandt cover); She Belongs to Me (Bob Dylan cover); Come On, Come On; Walls (Tom Petty cover); To Love Somebody (Bee Gees cover); I Dream; Mr. Bojangles (Jerry Jeff Walker cover).

Simple Cavemen set list: Dec. 10, Yalaha Bakery

The band offered its final performance of 2016 on another pretty afternoon at Yalaha Bakery. We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again: Yalaha Bakery is one of Central Florida’s quiet gems. You should come out and enjoy it, if you haven’t yet.

Come hungry, too. The Cavemen thoroughly enjoyed an old-fashioned chocolate torte ordered to celebrate Jimmy Carl’s upcoming birthday.

Musically, the band added a few wrinkles to the familiar set-list staples. We hadn’t played “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” in many moons. And the jump-blues of “Roll On, Lucy” — a nod to the Okrafesters in the crowd — unfolded with relative ease, although the arrangement hasn’t yet settled into its comfort zone.

Here’s what we played:

Set 1: Friend of the Devil (Grateful Dead cover); Horizon Moon; You Can’t Always Get What You Want (Rolling Stones cover); Who Do You Believe In Now?; Jukebox Serenade; Broken; T-Bone Shuffle (T-Bone Walker cover); Watchin’ the River Flow (Bob Dylan cover); I Dream.

Set 2: For What It’s Worth (Buffalo Springfield cover); Compilation Blues; Come On, Come On; Texas Wind; Lovin’ Arms (Tom Jans cover); Safe Inside the Mirror; Tupelo Honey (Van Morrison cover); She Belongs to Me (Bob Dylan cover).

Set 3: Roll On, Lucy; The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down (The Band cover); The Samosa Girls; Walls (Tom Petty cover); You Ain’t Going Nowhere (Bob Dylan cover); To Love Somebody (Bee Gees cover); Dead Flowers (Rolling Stones cover); Get Together (Youngbloods cover).
