Simple Cavemen set list: Yalaha Bakery, Feb. 10

What a terrific turn-out on Saturday in the courtyard! The Cavemen were happy to see a few friends in the mix, including a representative of the Disney alumni loyalists and Wahoo Bob Chubboy of 790 AM WLBE.

Wahoo Bob has become such a big advocate for the band in recent weeks and we look forward to being featured on his “Pull My Finger” show at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17. Thanks, Bob!

The full unit was on the bandstand Saturday and we had a blast. Tie-dye Thurston unveiled his new wah-wah pedal, an auspicious debut. Other new sonic wrinkles are on the way.

We return to Yalaha on Sunday, Feb. 18, as a four-piece without drums. Hope to see you there!

Here’s what we played:

Set 1. Friend of the Devil (Grateful Dead cover); The Weight (The Band cover); Disaster; Marlena; One Less Gamblin’ Man; Jukebox Serenade; Compilation Blues; Who Were You Thinking Of (Texas Tornados cover); Safe Inside the Mirror.

Set 2. For What It’s Worth (Buffalo Springfield cover); Samosa Girls; You Ain’t Going Nowhere (Bob Dylan cover); White Freightliner (Townes Van Zandt cover); Who Do You Believe In Now?; Texas Wind; Big Boss Man (Jimmy Reed cover); American Girl (Tom Petty cover); Like a Rolling Stone (Bob Dylan cover).

Simple Cavemen set list: Yalaha Bakery, Jan. 21

Due to several unrelated schedule conflicts, it was two Cavemen on the bandstand on Sunday at Yalaha Bakery.

Though exceedingly simple, Jimmy Carl and Tie-Dye Thurston  had a fine time performing for a receptive crowd, unveiling a handful of new songs and offering twists on a few new covers, as well.

In addition to adding some electric-guitar muscle, Tie-Dye also conjured welcome rhythms from percussion toys that included the musical bucket and the infamous goat-toe rattles. Jimmy played more banjo than usual, if that’s the kind of thing that you like.

We expect the full band to return for the next Yalaha date on Saturday, Feb. 10.

‘Til then, here’s what we played today:

Set 1. Angel From Montgomery (John Prine cover); Horizon Moon; You Can’t Always Get What You Want (Rolling Stones cover); Broken; She’s Gone; Tupelo Honey (Van Morrison cover); Come On, Come On; Swingin’ (Tom Petty cover); Get Together (Youngbloods cover).

Set 2. Canyon Full of Tears; Mr. Bojangles (Jerry Jeff Walker cover); Marlena; When I Write the Book (Nick Lowe cover); Tecumseh Valley (Townes Van Zandt cover); 55; American Girl (Tom Petty cover); Like a Rolling Stone (Bob Dylan cover).

Set 3. No Expectations (Rolling Stones cover); Walking Stick Blues; The Only One For Me; Yer So Bad (Tom Petty cover); Jackson County; Buckets of Rain (Bob Dylan cover); He’ll Have to Go (Jim Reeves cover); Watching the River Flow (Bob Dylan cover); You Ain’t Going Nowhere (Bob Dylan cover).
