Simple Cavemen set list: Yalaha Bakery, March 23

Another big crowd at Yalaha Bakery for the weekly Saturday afternoon craft show (running through May) and genuine porch music from the Simple Cavemen.

The band was pleased to see famed Orlando Sentinel alum Rene Stutzman and her friends in the audience, offering a request for MacGyver’s “Jukebox Serenade.” The set list also included Jimmy Carl’s “Walkin’ Stick Blues,”  one that the band doesn’t tackle too often, as well as plenty of Grateful Dead covers.

The Cavemen return to the bakery on May 4.

Here’s what we played:

Set 1. Friend of the Devil (Grateful Dead cover); The Weight (The Band cover); Walkin’ Stick Blues; Safe Inside the Mirror; One Less Gamblin’ Man; Texas Wind; Compilation Blues; American Girl (Tom Petty cover); Like a Rolling Stone (Bob Dylan cover).

Set 2. Bertha (Grateful Dead cover); She’s Gone; Hound Dog (Big Mama Thornton cover); Samosa Girls; You Got Me Runnin’ (Jimmy Reed cover); Jukebox Serenade; Who Do You Believe In Now; Isn’t It a Pity (George Harrison cover).

Set 3. Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door (Bob Dylan cover, MacGyver on mandolin); Fortune Teller (Allen Toussaint cover); For What It’s Worth (Buffalo Springfield cover); Come On, Come On; I Know You Rider (Grateful Dead cover); I Dream; Get Together (Youngbloods cover).

Simple Cavemen set list: Yalaha Bakery, March 9

Another terrific afternoon at Yalaha Bakery.

A big crowd on hand, motivated partially by the bakery’s newly added Saturday craft show on the lawn. It’s a weekly fixture on Saturdays that is slated to continue through May, we’re told.

You should check it out.

Happily, some folks also came out to hear the Cavemen, including our friends with the standing request for Bob Dylan’s “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight” and Jimmy Carl’s longtime Disney pal David Kranz. There also was a surprise appearance by the fabulous Linda and Fran, the latter one of the original Samosa Girls.

Yes, a genuine celebrity.

Many thanks to the folks at Yalaha Bakery for all the support over many years. The band is slated to return on March 23.
